1gks is a no frills attached school where you come to train as a professional goalkeeper would.

1gks coaching sessions are intense, and are aimed at rapidly improving a goalkeepers performance.

1gks classes are kept to small numbers to maximise time spent on an individual and their ability.

1gks aims to find a future international goalkeeper from the Yorkshire region within 10 years.

What we teach at 1gks

“I operate a good old fashioned style of school. There are a lot of ‘academies’ around and 99% of them are teaching bad goalkeeping habits. I desperately want to eliminate these ‘bad habits’ and produce exciting, confident, intelligent individuals who can go on to rule the footballing world.

I like to combine traditional techniques with a very unorthodox style. Confident hands and quick feet form our basis, but after that anything could happen. Odd as it might sound, we play a lot of handball, volleyball and basketball, as well as practising our yoga,  boxing and tae kwando techniques. I am also a firm believer in plyometrics as a cure for long term ankle and knee injuries, so our goalkeepers can expect a lot of hop, skip and jumping drills.

Above all else though, we have FUN”.

BRADFORD CITY.. NEWS FLASH

I am fascinated to read in the Telegraph & Argus (23/10/09) that Bradford City are now using ‘Pilates’ as a form of exercise (and injury reducement) within their training routine.

Apparently it’s been ‘quite funny’ to see how stiff some individuals really are.

The keepers at 1gks have been practicing this form of stretching since they began with myself, as I am a great believer flexibility within, not just goalkeepers, but individuals in general.

I know this form of exercise may seem dull, but we always have a great deal of fun with it.. and along with the plyometrics we do, we never seem to have any form of muscular injuries.

Maybe Bradford City should have called me back after I approached them with this concept two years ago.. still, never mind.. they’re doing it now.
